Macroscan of a Cicada body (Cicadoidea)

This is a macroscan of an insect specimen Cicada body (Cicadoidea). Macroscans has been refining the art of macro 3d photogrammetry since 2020. Macroscans can be either geometry based or splat based depending on the application. The best way to view them is in VR which is the native medium for 3d content imo. I built a VR platform for doing this and the effect of seeing enlarged insects with perfectly sharp details in VR is pretty jaw-dropping (and educational). Macroscans have also been 3d printed in a collaboration with Mimaki.
